Meeting point Gällivare E-sports center

About the project

The Swedish e-sports association has recently been approved as members of the Swedish National Sports Association and e-sports is a growing sport in the world. Young people who like to play computer games usually sit at home in their rooms, but through the project the aim is to create a social context where the person can share their interest with others.

The project will create a meeting place for e-sports enthusiasts in Gällivare where a venue will be set up, inaugurated and will be the venue for a number of events during the implementation of the initiative. The events vary and aim to invite people interested in e-sports to try out and develop in the sport. Women in e-sports are generally underrepresented and the project will therefore work to increase women's interest in e-sports and be a support for women who want to explore the sport.

The project also includes activities aimed at educating practitioners, parents and society about the possibilities, effects and impact of e-sports on individuals and society. In addition, the project also wants to create a network in the municipality and link Gällivare with other municipalities and initiate long-term cooperation with parties interested in e-sports.

 

Purpose and goals

The purpose of the project is to highlight E-sports* in society and attract e-sports players into a social context where people can share their interest with others.

*E-sports (electronic sports), cybersports or computer sports is a collective term for competitions that are held on computers or game consoles, where competitors play different types of computer games against each other.
