About us

Leader Polaris works with and for the local development in the municipalities of Jokkmokk, Gällivare, and Överkalix. Through us, organizations active in the area can apply for funding for development projects. Collaboration is sought, and projects that are beneficial for many, such as a destination, a broad public, or an industry, are prioritized.

Polaris

Leader Polaris (no. 2 on the map) is one of Sweden's total 40 leader areas and includes the municipalities of Gällivare, Jokkmokk, and Överkalix. We work with locally led development according to the leader method, and through us, you can receive financial support for projects, contacts, and coaching to advance your project idea.

Geography

The total area size: 39,000 km²
Total number of inhabitants: approximately 25,600 people
The area is large, varied, and sparsely populated with a population density of approximately 7 inhabitants/km² (compared to 25.7 inhabitants/km² for all of Sweden).

Funds and financing

The program period 2023-2027 we will be able to grant funds from the Rural Development Fund.

The operation is co-financed by 33 % of public support from Region Norrbotten and our municipalities: Jokkmokk, Gällivare, and Överkalix.

To promote the best possible development projects, the development strategy that we, together with a number of local actors, have developed is used. The strategy guides the LAG board's work with prioritization and selection of applications as well as partnerships, communication, and fund coordination.
