Pre-study arena for Lule Sami culture in Jokkmokk

About the project

The Sami languages are designated by the UN as endangered and Lule Sami is also one of the smaller language and cultural groups within the larger Sami. The project's target group includes Lule Sami inside and outside reindeer herding, regardless of age, geographical location, gender identity, language and cultural knowledge in Jokkmokk and partly Gällivare municipalities.

The project will map needs and wishes for interventions and activities where information will be collected through meetings, study visits, interviews and surveys. The results will help ensure that future operations and activities are based on real needs and conditions. Based on this, it is also possible to engage in dialogue with decision-makers and disseminate information to strengthen Lule Sami culture and identity.

In addition to creating a picture of what the needs are, the feasibility study will also investigate how knowledge transfer could be implemented, for example by establishing some form of physical Lule Sami arena in Jokkmokk.

Purpose and goals

The purpose of the project/feasibility study is to create a picture of the local conditions for strengthening and preserving the uniqueness of the Lule Sami culture, and to invite more people to get involved.

The goal of the project is to produce a feasibility study report that shows how continued local work to strengthen Lule Sami culture can best look like.
